Excerpts

On her acting aspirations:
I speak Hindi, Urdu and Punjabi well, so I’ve always told my husband that I should be in Bollywood. I’ve done a lot of modeling before marriage. I’m open to modeling options here in India and would love to meet actors and actresses here. It would be great if I could get a small part in a movie too.

On her Bollywood heartthrob:
Ever since I saw Ranveer Singh in Bajirao Mastani, I’ve fallen in love with him. I hadn’t seen much of him before. He’s an amazing actor. I’d love to meet him. I think when Amir is asleep one night, I’ll sneak out go to his house to meet. I’m kidding, his girlfriend Deepika Padukone will kill me if I do that.

On her favourite actress:
I’ve loved Madhuri Dixit since I was a kid. Among the recent actors, I like how Priyanka Chopra is doing so well in Hollywood now. I like Deepika and Aishwarya Rai too.

On her turbulent personal life:
Most of the things that were reported, about me having issues with Amir’s parents, were true. I need to travel with my husband for various events across the globe. This is 2017, and I am modern girl. You can’t expect me to go out in a burqa every time. Maybe his parents wanted a staunch Pakistani Muslim girl for him, but he married me. These tough times though make me a stronger person. Earlier, everyone used to judge me but not anymore. After three years of being pushed and shoved, I finally exploded. I feel people have started to get to know the real me after I stood up for myself. In this family feud, Amir is stuck in the middle, as he loves both his parents and me. Hopefully, one day we can work things out. But one thing’s for sure. The least I can expect is that his parents respect his wife and child. It has to be a mutual understanding from both sides.

On her love for Indian fashion:
Tarun Tahiliani is one of my favourite designers. I love his designs so much that I wore two of his outfits for my wedding functions. I came to India to meet him before the wedding. He was wonderful. Even when he came to meet me in England, he was thoroughly professional. There are some great designers in Pakistan too.

On her visits to India:
This is my third visit here. The first time I came alone to do my wedding shopping. The second time I came with my husband for cricketer Harbhajan Singh and Geeta Basra’s wedding. I’ve been to Mumbai and New Delhi and like both cities. But I prefer Mumbai a bit more because it’s a happening place. Delhi is quiet and nice. I like Mumbai for its shopping too. Amir and me are in India till Friday, and I want to do all things tourtisty. First up, I want to see the seas, and Gateway of India. I hope to see the Taj Mahal too.

On the frosty relations between India and Pakistan:
Though I love Pakistan, I don’t go as much because of the tense situation there. But people of both countries have the same culture, speak the same language and are of the same colour. One day, we should put aside all negativity and be one. There are a handful of people, who bring a bad name to the country or religion. But in the end, we all want peace. I’ve never faced any problems here in India.

On a potential Amir vs Vijender fight:
Before marriage, I wasn’t interested in sport too much but after marriage, I’ve started watching and following boxing. I watch India-Pakistan cricket matches sometime and I want to see Vijender Singh and Amir fight one day. I think it’ll be a great fight.
