You can tell an Amit Trivedi song for its distinct instrumentation and use of sounds. And this unique approach reflects in his other choices too. While many of his peers jumped on the bandwagon of judging music reality shows, Trivedi chose to steer clear of them.

In an earlier interview to mid-day, he had said that despite getting several reality show offers, he didn't take them up because he thought he was not in a position to judge new talent. But now, the National Award-winning composer, along with Sunidhi Chauhan and DJ Nucleya, has come on board as a judge on the musical reality show, The Remix, which streams on video-on-demand service Amazon Prime Video India. A change of heart that was prompted by the "unique format" of the show, he says.

"Judging reality shows is not my cup of tea. I find it difficult because I'm still learning music. I think I am not good at judging anyone. Having said that, I am doing this reality show because of its format, which is unique and exciting. I am also learning a lot from the contestants," says Trivedi.

On the Bollywood front, Trivedi has films like Rukh and Blackmail in his kitty. For now, he is focusing on his next, Secret Superstar. "It's the story of a 15-year-old singer-songwriter. She is immensely talented, but has to fight to have her voice heard. Almost all the songs speak her mind," says the composer. Ask him if
producer Aamir Khan has also stepped behind the mic for the project, and Trivedi responds with a firm "no".

He's also looking forward to starting work on R Balki's Padman, which releases in April next year. "While I can't talk about the music right now, I can say that working with Mr Balki is a lot of fun. His vision is inspiring."
