Bandra's new paratha takeaway outpost ironically gets our vote for its luscious lassi
After hunting for what we had imagined would be a small eatery filled with the sizzle of parathas cooking in ghee, near Amarsons on Linking Road, we are faced with a general store at a petrol pump. Inside the store, squashed to one corner is the 'first retail outlet' of the paratha delivery service, Oye Kiddan!

The expected sizzle greets us, emanating from a small tava on an induction stove. On it, a cook expertly kneads out parathas and fries them, till they are all puffed up. He flips it out on a plate, where another server uses a pizza cutter to divide it into four halves. This is then served with a small tub of butter, pickle and a bigger tub of dahi.
It's a quick and cheap meal, with parathas starting at '75. Except, you can't eat it there.
The space is tiny with one big bench serving as the kitchen. We could stand and watch the parathas being prepared but eating there involves bumping into the supermarket's customers; outside is too chaotic. We packed up our order.
Since they were out of mooli, mushrooms and the combo meals, we stuck to a Gobi Paratha and Mix Paratha. The price ('75) wasn't the only common factor between the two; they tasted the same. The thick parathas were stuffed with a vegetable mixture and an overload of chillies that made tasting anything else impossible.
To cool things off, we ordered the Punjabi Lassi ('50), which had us smacking our lips at its thick, sweet creaminess. The Cheese Corn Capsicum ('90) was interesting, with the sweet corn pairing well with the stringy cheese and soft capsicum. The mini Nutella Paratha ('90), though slathered with the hazelnut spread, was doughy. It was not a combination that would get our vote.
Oye Kiddan! has a few elements working in its favour — they offer a cheap and filling meal and the food travels well (we loved the colourful sturdy boxes). The food could use improvement, and we are eager to try out the Dal Makhni and Lachha Paratha meal when it does appear on the menu.
Till then, we will restrict our delivery orders to just the lassi.
