Delhi-based accused, who was caught using a replicated card to buy jewellery and mobile phones from a mall, tried to hang herself using a police uniform
There was high drama at Oshiwara police station on Friday, when a 27-year-old Delhi-based woman attempted suicide in the lock-up after being caught red-handed using a cloned credit card at a mall.
The woman, identified as a Ramandeep Kaur, had been brought to the Oshiwara police station, when she suddenly pushed a female constable out of the lock-up and shut the door from inside. She then attempted to take her life by hanging herself from the ceiling with a pair of pants she found in the lock-up. Officers broke into the room and admitted her to Cooper hospital. Doctors later said that she was fine.

According to the Oshiwara police, Kaur went to Reliance mall near Lokhandwala Circle on Friday, and purchased two iPhone sets and some jewellery using a replicated HDFC Bank credit card. As soon as she had the card swiped, an officer from the bank informed mall authorities that the card used was not legitimate.
“Mall authorities kept her busy by offering her complimentary food. Meanwhile, they called us and lodged a complaint about the woman. We reached the mall at once and arrested her,” said a cop from Oshiwara police station.
Cops revealed that Kaur used fake credit cards of various banks to purchase high-end jewellery and phones. On Thursday, she went to a mall at Kapurbawdi in Navi Mumbai, purchased jewellery worth Rs 90,000 and used the card. HDFC Bank authorities immediately registered a case at Kapurbawdi police station against an unidentified person using a cloned card. Cops obtained CCTV footage from the mall for investigations, but failed to nab her. However, she fell into the police net the very next day.
Kaur was produced at a local court and remanded in police custody till January 2 under Section 420 of the IPC. She was also booked for attempting suicide and will now be in custody till January 4.
Upon interrogation, Kaur revealed that she had been contracted by a man to come to Mumbai and use the cards to make the purchases. Cops are making inquiries to find out if there’s a racket involved.u00a0
