Experience live magic and drama in a performance that hopes to teach kids the importance of family, social and civic virtues
How many times, as kids, did we wish our mother would let us do things on our own and quit nagging us for not brushing our teeth or finishing the dinner? Children's drama, Wizard from Far West, is about a nine-year-old boy called Rohan who wishes the same, except that he is granted the wish one evening. However, a turn of events, where he gets into trouble and is rescued by a wizard called Mandrake, makes him realise the importance of family values.

"Rohan is a Batman fan but Batman was too busy fighting Superman, so we called in Mandrake for help," jokes Abhyuday Tamhankar, a stage actor and director of the play that combines drama with live magic performances.
Tamhankar, who started his career with theatre groups in New Delhi and has been involved with several productions in Mumbai, explains that the play revolves around the importance of civic and social values, presented in a humorous way. "We wanted to keep the play simple and entertaining for our young viewers. Even serious events in the script, like Rohan getting involved with the street mafia and then being rescued by Mandrake, have a fun element to it, so that the kids don't get intimidated," says Tamhankar, as he shares the group's philosophy to spread knowledge through stagecraft.
This performance marks the play's seventh staging in the city.
