Meet Rock, Pop, Grunge and Electronic artistes under one roof at a mini suburban music festival

Back in the days of the CD, music lovers would queue up at playstations installed inside stores to listen to Iron Maiden and Euphoria, whose disc albums would share space on racks. With the demise of the CD, the routine faded too. But the odd multi-genre festival ensures Rock, Hip-Hop and Pop sounds can be experienced under the same roof.

Discovery Nights, a mini music fest by ennui.bomb, is one such experiment that seems to be working. Its fourth edition will feature Mojo Bombay (Alternative Rock), Sonaluna (Electro-Acoustic), Blue Reverie (Grunge), Revolt Art Technology & The Dharavi Project (Hip-Hop) and iblinkwhenithink (Slakcer/Pop/Indie).

Among the bands, iblink-whenithink, comprising the duo Rishav Kapur and Tanvi Dhobale, is a favourite, owing to their different sound. It was formed in January this year. At the fest, their set will include original tracks like Gotta Be Crazy and Our Last Journey. Kapur, who uses a vocal processor to change tones on live tracks, believes the event scores on freshness. "You get to hear several genres on one stage. And you don’t need to be established to play at the festival," he says.
Kapur shares how the band took shape. "Initially, I decided to go solo as I believed working with another musician would be challenging. I was making music for fun but figured that I could add one member and do better. All Rock instruments cannot be programmed. Tanvi is a close friend and she started helping me out. She is a producer-singer too."
MC Heam and Poetik Justis
Hip-Hop for life
Two emcees, a DJ, a producer and a beatboxer will take the stage in a unique collaboration. The Dharavi Project, a Hip-Hop crew that also runs a music and dance school for kids in the central Mumbai neighbourhood, will be represented by MC Heam and Poetik Justis. Revolt Art Technology (RAT), a combination of musical and visual artistes, will support them. "I will be performing Free Flow, Machata and Tripping Good," says Heam. The first two tracks are yet to be released. "They were written for the crew, the struggle and the fun as an artiste," he adds.
Poetik Justis shot to fame with the song Bhaari Scene and that is one of the highlights of the evening. "Through the song, we raised funds for Dharavi’s children. We want-ed them to wear good clothes and polished shoes," says Heam. They raised '80,000 through the campaign. They like Discovery Nights for the positive vibes. "It is a happy feeling to be playing along with other musicians."
