Even the amateurish avatar of an equatorial forest couldn't distract us from the disappointing food, and dismal service at R City's Rain Forest Resto Bar. Don't waste your money on this one

Rain Forest's outer fa ade looked likeu00a0 gates leading to a jungle-themed section of an amusement park.

Inside, a miniature waterfall, wooden pathways, tacky fake trees and eerie dinosaurs were suspended from various nooks, completing The Jungle Book-meets -Jurassic Park look.

We hoped the multicuisine menu would exorcise King Kong and Co.'s spirit, as we settled in a poorly-lit corner with strange incandescent lighting that made our clothes emit an annoying glow.

By the time the crumb-fried savouries arrived, the lone Bryan Adams CD had completed several woeful workouts. While the mocktails were too citrusy, the bites would've had the Italians cry, "Mia Culpa".

Half way during that wait, we decided to save time and order our mains.

This time safe and Indian Fish Tikka Masala (Rs 325) with Jeera Rice (Rs 85) and Dal Bukhara (Rs 145). Boondi Raita (Rs 65) was added to cool down the spread.

The fish, claiming to carry a secret recipe from the chef, arrived with an odd, partly-stale odour, while the Bukhara was just another dal preparation.

We relied on the humble Boondi Raita and Jeera Rice to fill us up.u00a0

While the black hat-totting waiters, looking more like extras in a bad B-Town mafia scene warranted for the odd chuckle, their inattentiveness was inexcusable. Exasperated at our rotten luck, we hoped to find solace, the sweet way.

The Gulab Jamun (Rs 45) was the saving grace at an otherwise washed-out meal. Even the 10% discount thrown in didn't help.

Rain Forest didn't know we were there. The GUIDE reviews anonymously and pays for its meals.
