Mumbai: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today lauded the efforts of collectors of Amravati, Yavatmal, Washim, Akola, Beed, Nanded and Jalgaon districts for bringing down the number of farmer suicides.

He was addressing a meeting to review the status of efforts by government for availability of fodder, water tankers, progress of 'JalYukt Shivar', farm ponds and curbing farmer suicides.
Fadnavis interacted with 16 collectors of drought-affected districts via video conferencing. Maharashtra Revenue Minister Eknath Khadse also participated from Jalgaon.
Fadnavis asked all collectors to provide wells on priority basis to all families where farmers have committed suicide.
In Yavatmal, number of farmer suicides has reduced to 66 from 122 in the last year, Fadnavis said.
The collectors informed the Chief Minister that work orders are being issued for 13,386 farm ponds in these districts.
Fadnavis also asked collectors to immediately process all applications received for farm ponds in these districts.
Water is being supplied to these 16 districts by 3,613 tankers.
Fadnavis asked all collectors to speed up work under Jalyukt Shivar Abhiyan and complete them by June.
