Monochrome is one of the key trends across fashion runways the world over, but one does not need to stick to just black and white this festive season. Think of doing one colour from head to toe, but play around with different hues of it in the same look. You can go for soft pastel tones like blush pinks or milky mints and add festive cheer with statement jewellery.

A tone-on-tone belt with a gota patti sari looks great on a festive occasion. This adds a contemporary element to the classic sari. The idea is to give a new, more comfortable silhouette to the traditional drape. I would recommend wearing it in the same colour rather than breaking the length of the garment with a contrasting shade.

Pleated ponchos, wraps and kimono jackets are great shapes as an alternative to blouses and dupattas. When teamed with brocade skirts, lehengas, culottes or palazzos, they retain the drape and drama of traditional dupattas, but set the look apart from the rest because the silhouette becomes so much more distinctive.

The peekaboo petticoat is what you should go for this season. A petticoat is an integral part of the sari. Why keep it hidden if it can add a new sense of style to the sari? Solid, strong colours with prints add drama. It also makes the drape more comfortable. A handwoven linen petticoat is breezy and light.

The metallic textures and details in draped dresses are a favourite for this festive season, making almost every body type look great. Be it a pre-wedding affair or a Diwali bash, the moulded-to-your-body embellishment makes the cut for all occasions.

A subtle metallic hint enhances the ensemble to give it a festive appeal. I prefer a minimalistic approach when it comes to menswear. Ideally, have a metallic undercurrent to the texture of your outfit. This will be good enough to add some heft to the look.
