Following a tip off, the Pune ATS arrested a charas supplier in Khadaki Bazar yesterday with 3.5 kg charas worth more than Rs 2 lakh.
Lallan Gokhalia Yadav (55), a resident of UP, had neatly packed seven packets of charas and sealed them with tapes to a cloth bag to avoid suspicion. Yadav arrived near the Ganapati Mandir area to deliver the packets to local peddlers.
He was caught unawares when the Pune ATS team arrived on the scene and arrested him.
According to ATS sources, Yadav had been supplying drugs in Pune and its surrounding areas for the last two years. He used to come to Pune by the Gorakhpur Express and subsequently use the local trains to deliver drugs to his customers.
A case has been registered with Mumbai ATS unit under Sections 8 and 20 B of the Narcotics and Drugs Prevention Act. The ATS is hopeful that Yadav's arrest will help them unravel the local network of drug peddlers in the city.
