Priyank Panchal is an avid reader and likes to maintain a diary of the day's proceedings. He takes inspiration from reading biographies of top players like Sachin Tendulkar, Ricky Ponting and Rahul Dravid. He jots down their quotes that encourage him to excel at his game. Possessing a sound temperament and good technique, he has moulded his game on the lines on his idol Dravid.

The Ahmedabad-born batsman has been a prolific run-getter for Gujarat, with the last season being a memorable one, when he became the first player to score a triple century. He finished the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy season with the most runs in the competition, 1,310 runs in 10 matches, the third highest in the history of the tournament.

Following his monumental success, Panchal has carried his superb form to the new season, which opened with the Duleep Trophy match played under floodlights and with pink ball in Lucknow yesterday. Playing for India Red against India Green he showed great application and temperament on a sluggish pitch to notch up his 12th first class century as his team finished the day in a commanding position.

It surely was not attractive cricket, but he stuck to his gameplan till removed by part-timer Karun Nair for 105. At the close of play India Red were 232-5.
