Finally, authorities start work on dedicated lanes for BEST buses

Travelling in BEST buses can be a pain, especially during peak hours. However, now the BEST Undertaking along with the Traffic Police, BMC, MMRDA and other state government authorities are finally doing something to create dedicated lanes for BEST buses. The authorities have identified small stretches at six locations across Mumbai where no other vehicles apart from BEST buses will ply.

"We had a meeting with the state government and identified six locations where dedicated lanes would be created," said Jagdish Patil, General Manager, BEST Undertaking. These locations are Jogeshwari Vikhroli Link Road, stretches on Eastern Express Highway, Western Express Highway, Haji Ali to Worli, Suman Nagar and Bandra-Kurla Complex.

These buses shall mainly ply during peak hours in the morning (8am-11am) and evening (5pm-8pm). Sources said that traffic police has said that they will soon work out the traffic study as an impact of this dedicated lane after talking to other authorities of MMRDA and BMC. They are also working out the nitty-gritties for creating Station Area Traffic Improvement Scheme near railway stations like Dadar, Bandra east and west where buses can move smoothly.
