Food Special: Tried a French Duck Confit burger?

While many of Mumbai eateries and watering holes offer innovative varieties, it's not every day that you bite into a duck in your burger. Starting today, Woodside All Day Bar and Eatery will be serving different types of burgers from across the globe, as part of its specially curated menu for the eighth edition of the Beer and Burger Festival.

The French specialty Duck Confit burger (Rs 595 plus taxes) is part of this mix. Piqued, we decided to give it a try. Loaded with the confit of shredded duck, spicy citrus sauce, egg whites as well as micro greens, a burst of flavours greeted us as we took the first bite of this delish burger.

Cooked to perfection with the right amount of sweetness, the duck confit blended well with the citrus-ey sauce and the egg whites made the burger quite wholesome. The thin and crispy homemade chips served alongside with a sweet-and-sour dip added to the crunch.

Fire and spice
Halfway through, we sampled another quirky option, the Indian Four Zero One To T Chicken Burger (Rs 495 plus taxes). This burger is cooked with the world's second hottest chilli, bhut jolokia, supposed to be 401.5 times hotter than Tabasco sauce; hence, the name. Keen to test how we fared on the spice-meter, we were went for the kill.

The buns were packed with fiery-red grilled buffalo chicken coated with bhut jolokia sauce, jalapenos and garden lettuce. One bite, and our mouth was on fire. Though tastier than typical Tabasco-spiced burgers, this is not for the faint-hearted.

The specially curated menu for this 20-day long festival also features Thai Spiced Lentil Burger with Sriracha, Japanese Teriyaki Tofu Burger, Argentinean Chimichuri Chicken Burger, Spanish Roast Pork Belly Burger as well as Fiery Slow cooked Lamb Burger featuring ghee roast lamb.

Who's a Pompous Ass?
The eatery has tied up with Gateway Brewing Company to launch a special edition craft beer called Pompous Ass for the festival. Like its name, the deep mahogany coloured concoction was high on flavour.

Without being overpowering, and tasting of roasted malt, the smooth, small batch porter will delight caffeine addicts. You can also pair burgers with other interesting artisanal craft beers from Independence Brewing Company that has launched its brews in this eatery.

Till: August 2, 11.30 am to 1 am
At: Woodside All Day and Eatery, Andheri (26328963) and Woodside Inn, Colaba (22025525)
