Gaganjeet Bhullar suffered a late stutter on the back nine, but was never really in danger yesterday as he won the Macau Open for the second time and with it, grabbed a eighth career title on Asian Tour. Starting the day, just one ahead, Bhullar opened up a six-shot gap at one stage before winning by three to complete a stunning wire-to-wire victory on Sunday. Bhullar shot a final round of 68 that included seven birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey. His total was 13-under 271 and he was three clear of fellow Indian Ajeetesh Sandhu, who, at one stage, held joint lead with Bhullar after the first two holes of the final day.

Sandhu carded 70 and totalled 10-under 274 to finish T-2nd alongside Filipino Angelo Que (69). Bhullar, who pocketed US$90,000, became the first Indian to win the event twice — Anirban Lahiri won it once. Bhullar is the first player to win eight titles on the Asian Tour before turning 30 and is also the youngest to achieve the feat on the Asian Tour. He now holds the same number of Asian Tour titles as compatriots Arjun Atwal and Jyoti Randhawa.

An ecstatic Bhullar said, "I went blank after the bogey on the first hole. But it got simple after the bogey. I hit the ball well and made putts. This is the only event I've played in such windy conditions in all four rounds. "My coach Noah Montgomery changed a few technical aspects in my swing and that has helped. It has been my childhood dream to win the Order of Merit. I've seen my heroes Arjun (Atwal), Jyoti (Randhawa) and Jeev (Milkha Singh) win it. I would love to do the same."
