World Hepatitis Day is celebrated on June 28 every year. It is a disease-centric global awareness days that is officially endorsed by World Health Organization (WHO). Hepatitis is highly prevalent in India and therefore steps need to be taken to eradicate it from the country.


Hepatitis is a deadly disease caused due to inflammation of the liver. Liver plays an important role in digestion and therefore taking utmost care of the organ is mandatory. Here is a list of six vegetables that help clean the liver naturally and lower the chances of developing hepatitis:

1. Carrots: Rich in protein called Glutathione, carrot helps to detoxify the liver naturally. Carrot is infused with high amount of beta-carotene and plant- flavonoids, that help stimulate and support liver function.

2. Tomatoes: It contains Glutathione, a powerful liver detoxifier. Apart from Glutathione, tomato is rich in antioxidants and vitamin C, which aid the natural cleansing process of liver.

3. Beetroots: Like carrots, beetroot is also high in plant-flavonoids and beta-carotene. Including beetroot in the diet can enhance and support liver function. Beetroot can be consumed either raw or in the form of juice.

4. Spinach: It is one green leafy vegetables that serve as a natural liver detoxifier. High amount of chlorophyll in soaks up environmental toxins from the body. Incorporating spinach along with other green vegetables like bitter gourd, cabbage, and chicory increases the production and flow of bile. It also helps wash off toxins from the body.

5. Garlic: This pungent vegetable has the power to stimulate liver enzymes and flush off toxins from the body. It has high amounts of natural compounds like allicin and selenium, which protect the liver from toxic damage. Garlic can be either included in cooking or can be consumed raw. Also, garlic has the power to lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels and enhance overall liver functioning.

6. Broccoli: Eating broccoli boosts the production of glucosinolate, a natural component found in many pungent plants. An increase in the production of glucosinolate helps to flush out carcinogens and other toxins from the liver.
