Mumbai Magicians finally registered a win in their penultimate fixture of the 2014 Hockey India League beating Kalinga Lancers 3-2 at the MHA-Mahindra Stadium yesterday.

Skipper Glenn Turner heaved a sigh of relief as he walked into the post-match press conference room. "It feels good to finally have a win under our belt. Until now we missed so many chances making our opposition goalkeepers look very good," said the Australian.

Coach MK Kaushik agreed with his captain: "We missed a lot of scoring opportunities in the tournament. Today too, we missed at least three-four goals. But I'm happy we finally did it in our last home game, for our fans here in large numbers."
Turner opened the scoring for the hosts, tapping in after a goalmouth melee seconds before the end of Quarter 1. Mumbai doubled their lead (33rd min) through a neat penalty corner drag-flick by Mark Gleghorne.

Kalinga's Mohd Nizam then tapped in for 2-1. Mumbai once again regained their two-goal cushion thanks a fine solo run down the right by Sarvanjit Singh, who neatly relayed the ball to Ravi Pal right in front of the Kalinga goal for an easy flick in (56th).
Two minutes later, Argentine Lucas Vila gave the visitors some hope of a fightback, smartly deflecting a pass inside the Mumbai circle beating custodian David Harte all ends up.
Kalinga then pushed for the equaliser and won a penalty corner (66th), but failed to score and Mumbai held on for their first win in nine HIL ties. Elsewhere, Punjab Warriors beat Ranchi Rhinos 4-2 in another HIL tie in Chandigarh.
