Sonu Sood is one actor who believes in doing his bit for the society. After aiding underprivileged students complete their studies, the actor is now championing the cause of acid attack survivors.

As a part of his latest endeavour, Sood has organised an awards function for young achievers across various fields in Dubai on September 21. The proceeds from the awards gala will go to the acid attack survivors.

In his attempt to create awareness for skin donation, he has amassed support from his friends in the fraternity. R Madhavan, Huma Qureshi, Farah Khan and Neha Dhupia will be performing at the event. Other guests include Sania Mirza, PV Sindhu, Mohammad Azharuddin, The Great Khali and Vijender Singh.

Delighted to have received support from his industry friends, Sood says, "These celebrities are helping us create awareness about the pathos of acid attack survivors."

Sood's tryst with the cause began last year when he attended a workshop held in association with Indian School of Design and Innovation (ISDI) and Hothur Foundation on the subject.

The actor has, since then, been batting for the victims, helping them emerge triumphant from the tragic episode and lead a renewed life. He considers his mother, Saroj Sood, his inspiration behind the initiative. "My mom was a professor and would teach underprivileged students free of cost. We used to have around 150 children at our place daily, to be tutored by her. Now that she is no longer with us, it is up to me to take up such causes in her memory."

Sood feels that a vast majority of the population is unaware of the benefits of skin grafting and skin banking. "My plan is to spread awareness all over the globe on the subject. Dubai is just a start for us. We want to take it to America and Canada next."
