India creeps into American's songs

American folk singer-songwriter Carrie Newcomer plans to spread hope through her performance today

"Add my name to the list of people who have fallen in love with India," declares Carrie Newcomer. Like most first-time travellers, the American songstress can't stop gushing about the people, culture and colours. But for Newcomer, the five-city tour organised by the American Centre also offers the chance to garner experiences that she wants to incorporate in her music. Travelling through Delhi and Kolkata (where she performed before arriving in Mumbai) has given her loads to write about. "I have met so many interesting people during every performance, and each one of them has an interesting story to tell. Many of their stories might find their way into my songs."

For today's performance, Newcomer is planning to pack in numbers with an explicit note of hope. "My songs speak of hope and have a deep spiritual context. Music has the power to spread hope, and that's what I intend to do today," say Newcomer. The folk singer's performance will include songs from her last album, Geography of Light, and some new numbers that will be part of an album she plans to release next year.

On: Today, 11 am onwards.
