20-year-old Jyoti Gupta, a female hockey player, who has also represented the women's national team was found dead on the railway tracks in Haryana on Wednesday evening.

The Police have come to hear, Jyoti Gupta apparently tried to commit suicide as the Chandigarh-Jaipur Intercity Express driver stated. The driver said that Jyoti 'suddenly appeared' before the moving train on Jhajjar Road overbridge, which is nearby to Rewari railway station around 8.30 pm.
As told to TOI, 'He tried to pull the brakes but the girl came in front of the train before it could be stopped,' said Ranveer Singh, SHO, GRP Rewari.
Sources also state that the woman hockey player last had a word with her family, who are in Sonepat, at around 7 pm. She apparently told them she was delayed as her bus was halted. When Jyoti's mother called her around 10.30 pm, the GRP official answered it and informed her about her daughter's death.
