At the halfway stage of the league phase, Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) are still struggling to get their combination right. In eight games they have tried out as many as 19 players, but with little success.

With an unsettled unit, KXIP are struggling to remain in contention for a place in the play-offs. Return to their home ground in Mohali has also not helped their cause as they were outplayed by defending champions Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday night.

Left-arm spinner Axar Patel is the only bowler with an economy rate of under eight an over. The rest have been leaking runs, be it Varun Aaron, Sandeep Sharma, Ishant Sharma or Mohit Sharma. Their reliance on home bowlers is proving to be a big drawback for the team and there is nothing much the team management can do except hope that these bowlers somehow rise to the challenge and still take the team to the play-offs.

As luck would have it, KXIP run into bottom-placed Delhi Daredevils (DD) today afternoon. They would hope that their bowlers can help them turn their fortunes around.

Surprisingly, Daredevils have kept Mohammed Shami in the cotton wool, giving him just one game. But with Zaheer Khan a bit under the weather in the previous game, Shami may get another chance to make a mark.

Their management, guided by Rahul Dravid, is still hopeful that the team can make a comeback in the second half of the league phase and are able to finish in the top four. For that they will have to start performing in right earnest from today’s game.
