Manoj Tiwary, who played a vital knock (58 off 48 balls) for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS) against Mumbai Indians (MI)âÂÂÂÂÂÂat the Wankhede Stadium on Tuesday, was all praise for former India skipper MS Dhoni's belligerent 26-ball 40 that powered RPS to 162-4.
Not easy against Bumrah
"During the strategic timeout when I was batting with Ajinkya Rahane, the coach and captain said that we should try to take the total close to 160. But we were struggling to get that, until Mahi bhai played those outstanding shots in the last two overs. It was not easy against Bumrah, but Dhoni showed why he is such a highly-rated player. He has so much ability to hit the best bowlers in the IPL with ease, which was amazing.
"Those sixes in the end helped us to put up a fighting total. Later on, our bowlers executed the plans very well. They lost a couple of wickets in the power play and we never looked back from there," said Tiwary.
Besides playing the role of a finisher, Tiwary revealed that Dhoni also shoulders the skipper's responsibility. "Mahi bhai has been supporting Smith very well. It is evident on the field that Dhoni has been maneuvering the field placements and he keeps players in the right position. Smith is completely focused on changing the bowlers. He has too much on his plate and that's why Mahi bhai guides every player to stand in the right position," Tiwary added.
RPS' mantra: Talk less
Tiwary shed light on what has worked for RPS, who have defeated MI in all the three games they faced this season. "Our coach Stephen Fleming and the captain don't talk too much. They talk only about specific things that have to be discussed. We don't have too many meetings as it takes too much of time. The message is short and sharp," he said.
