Excerpts:
Ashwin has risen
Ashwin has graduated to the next level. He is bowling extremely well, but unless he plays overseas, it will be difficult to judge him. Currently, he is in top form and you have to appreciate him for all that he has achieved for the country rather than criticise him. Not only Ashwin, but Jadeja is bowling well too. India have developed a good spin and fast bowling attack, but the real test for them will be when India travel abroad.
IPL helping domestic
Indian cricket has got a real boost from the IPL. You don't see a Kuldeep Yadav coming into a Test squad and pick four wickets on debut just like that. He could do so because he played in the IPL with international cricketers and got the experience of playing in high-pressure situation.
You can't get such experience just by playing domestic cricket. The game has changed so much and it is good for world cricket. In my days, in the 1990s, 210 used to be a winning total, today even 350 is not safe. A lot of young people are watching the IPL and it is motivating many to take up the game seriously.
If Indian players don't play in other T20 leagues it's never going to make an impact like the IPL. Fan-following for Indian cricketers is huge, they are stars, and everyone wants see Indian players in action.
Rashid, a special talent
We (Sunrisers) picked Rashid in the squad because he was bowling well to international cricketers. I saw him on just two occasions and knew he is a special talent. He is different from other leg-spinners as he bowls a bit quicker and has a lot of variation. We gave him the confidence and he played his part in the first two matches.
