Kings XI Punjab were staring at a defeat at 62 for five at the end of 10th over against Sunrisers Hyderabad, but Manan Vohra's heroics saw the visitors come within striking distance of pulling off an incredible win.

The 23-year-old from Chandigarh smashed 95 off 50 balls with the help of nine boundaries and five sixes, almost singlehandedly guiding KXIP to victory with an incredible knock.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar did the initial damage before the Afghanistan spin duo of Rashid Khan and Mohammad Nabi took control of the proceedings.

However, young Vohra had other ideas as he unleashed a wide array of shots that he has in his repertoire. Even as the going got tough with the required run rate soaring, Vohra seemed unperturbed and literally toyed with the Sunrisers attack.

In the end, the equation was brought down to 18 from the last three overs and 16 from last two, and that's when Bhuvneshwar responded to his captain's call by having Vohra trapped in front with KXIP still some way off the target.

Kings XI Punjab could not recover from that and were eventually bowled out for 154 in 19.4 overs.

But Manan dismissal saw a brief moment that proves that cricket is still a gentleman's game. After celebrating the fall of Manan's wicket, Sunrisers skipper David Warner and his teammate Yuvraj Singh both walked up to the young cricketer and patted him on the back and spoke some encouraging words as congratulations for a brave innings.

The gesture is even more virtal in an era where verbal spats are all too frequent, both on and off the field.

Talking about Manan Sunrsiers skipper David Warner was sounded relieved to have a bowler like Bhuvneshwar in his attack.

Warner said, "Credit to Manan for playing like that. Credit to Bhuvi too, he was unbelievable. Manan made it look easy when he cleared the ropes. He had to dig in for his team. Unfortunately, only one team can win. It's great to have Bhuvi in the shed at the back end and he executed perfectly."

Maxwell said it was "criminal" to have lost the match after Vohra's knock. "It was an outstanding game, made by a great innings by Vohra. Unfortunately, he didn't have help from the rest of us. It was definitely chase-able. We did well in the middle with the ball but let it slip in the back end.

"To play an innings like that in a losing cause is criminal. He's a superstar. A big score like that was around the corner for him," Maxwell said.
