Police ban entry to vehicles headed towards Bhushi Dam after 3 pm on weekends

If you're planning a picnic to Lonavla's Bhushi Dam or Tiger Point, make sure you reach there before 3 pm. If not, you may either have to turn back or abandon your vehicle and walk up to the picnic spot, thanks to the new regulations introduced by the police.

Police have banned entry of vehicles headed towards Bhushi Dam from Lonavla city after 3 pm on weekends. Police said they had enforced this rule, as it took almost six hours to drive on the 4-km stretch because of traffic.

Police Inspector Balram Lanjile said, "It gets crowded on weekends making it chaotic. The roads are narrow here and by restricting entry of vehicles we hope to cut down on driving time at this stretch by two hours.

Lanjile said that vehicles headed towards Tiger Point and Amby Valley would also not be allowed after 3 pm.

"Local vehicles will be exempted from this rule," he added.

Besides, tourists will have to vacate the Bhushi Dam area by 6 pm on weekends.

On account of the two drowning incidents, Lonavla police have requested a private agency to deploy lifeguards in this area.
