Indian cinema has evolved tremendously over the last few years. Industry stalwarts will come together to discuss its future at the first Jagran Cinema Summit, which will be held at JW Marriott, Juhu, on Friday, September 15.

The event will bring together community partners from across creative industries and examine the most pressing issues facing the industry today. The opening ceremony in the afternoon will be followed by a talk with Kangana Ranaut, who will be in conversation with Mayank Shekhar, entertainment editor, mid-day.

This would be followed by a panel discussion. Madhu Mantena (founder, Phantom Films), Ajay Chacko (founder, Arré), Sameer Nair (former CEO, Balaji Telefilms), Shrishti Behl (vice president, Film and Television Producers Guild of India) and actor Vivek Oberoi will talk on, 'Does size [of the screen] matter?' They will look at the changing consumption patterns of on-screen entertainment, and its effect on filmmaking and allied industries like TV, Internet, smart phones, and OTT platforms.

There will be a panel discussion, hosted by Shekhar, followed by a presentation on 'Looking back as we look ahead on the heritage of cinema and restoration of films to preserve our rich legacy' by Shivendra Singh Dungarpur (founder, Film Heritage Foundation).

Topics such as the variation in film budget, stars turning producers, production houses cutting down costs, and how to increase theatrical footfalls will be discussed by Siddharth Roy Kapur (producer and president, Film and Television Producers Guild of India), Mukesh Bhatt (founder, Vishesh Films), Sajid Khan (director and box office guru), Amrita Pandey (VP, Studios, Disney India), Alok Tandon (CEO, Inox Leisure Ltd) and Guneet Monga (CEO, Sikhya Entertainment). The session will conclude with a conversation on the future of stardom between actor Varun Dhawan and Shekhar.

Talking about the purpose behind the summit, Basant Rathore, senior vice president, Jagran group, says, "The film industry is on the cusp of change — new writers are coming in, new themes are being explored and new techniques of filmmaking are being used. The contours of the business of cinema are changing, which is evident with the way films are marketed and distributed. At the same time, with digital steaming and new formats and different screen sizes, there is a huge change in how people consume cinema. The industry needs a platform to discuss and debate some of these issues. The Jagran Cinema Summit is an initiative by the Jagran Group to fulfil this long-standing gap."
