SSC evaluators fume as measly Rs 150 travel allowance goes missing from their remunerations; board chief unaware
Last year, after relentless protests by schoolteachers, the Maharashtra State Board had increased the remuneration for assessment work by Rs 1 per answer sheet. This year, the teachers are agitating again, but this time it's because the measly R150 travel allowance, which is offered to them by the Board, has been unceremoniously snipped from their remuneration. Significantly, the schoolteachers received the remuneration recently, after a two-month delay.

It's been a never-ending battle for nearly 16,500 SSC examination evaluators, as until very recently, they were demanding that the travel allowance be increased.
Speaking to mid-day, Rajesh Pandya, vice-president of the Teachers Democratic Front, said, "We have been demanding that the travel allowance be increased to cover the expenses, but now, adding insult to injury, they have skipped adding that allowance to our remuneration."
Pandya also alleged that despite the teachers having completed and submitted the assessed answer sheets before their deadlines, the remuneration distribution was delayed by two months. "The assessment work was submitted before the deadline and even the results were declared on time in June. But we are only receiving our remuneration in August after repeated follow-ups with the board."
Maharashtra State Board chief (Mumbai Division) Duttatray Jagtap, however, seemed unaware that this specific remuneration component has been missing this year. He said, "I will verify if the travel allowance has not been issued, but the amount for the same is decided by the state government. The allowance is supposed to cover three trips of the evaluators and it is always disbursed along with the assessment remuneration."
