Twenty years after renaming the iconic Victoria Terminus to Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus, the government has decided to add the word Maharaj to it. The new name will be Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus. Not just the terminus, the word will be added to the Mumbai airport, too, with its new name being Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.

The amendment was announced this morning at the winter session of the legislature. Now as per process, the necessary changes will be made physically as well. Moreover as far as the railway terminus is concerned, the authorities will have to make changes in the ticketing and public announcement systems, too. At present the airport is referred to as CSIA while the railway terminus is called CSTM.

Earlier last month, there was hullabaloo over the naming of Oshiwara station to Ram Mandir station. Currently, the new railway station hasn’t yet been opened to the public as the Western Railway is still incorporating the necessary changes to the system.
