For the past three days, more than 200 people have been stranded on Neil Island in Andaman and Nicobar, due to a cyclone and water disturbances in the area.
The Regional Disaster Management Cell has identified eight families, i.e. 25 people, from Mumbai and Maharashtra so far.

“We learnt about the situation on the evening of December 8. We contacted many tours and travel companies from the city and found these eight families from Mumbai and Maharashtra. It was a very difficult task, but under the guidance of the Thane Municipal Commissioner Sanjay Jaiswal, we were able to sail through,” said Santosh Kadam, from the Disaster Management team. A certain Dosti Tours and Travels group is at present in the Andamans.
“There are families with other tours and travels companies, but so far only these eight families have been identified. Everyone is safe and sound. Everyone will be bought home soon,” said Kadam, adding that their teams have gone to the island and the rescue operations are on.
