Barcelona playmaker Lionel Messi insists his side's fantastic season will mean little if they end it empty-handed yet again.

Pep Guardiola's men are firmly on course for a treble as they lead the Primera Liga by six points and are in the final of the Copa del Rey as well as the Champions League quarter-finals.

However, after two trophyless seasons, Messi has urged his team-mates not to take anything for granted.

"We're enjoying ourselves playing football but we're also doing it with seriousness," the Argentina ace told El Mundo Deportivo.

"We're doing well and that translates into good football, but at the same time we're not losing our reference points, the advice that Pep gives us.

"The plaudits are good, if we play well it's nice that people praise our football. But what's most important is that we remain conscious that we are only in the middle of the road.

Enjoying ourselves
"We're enjoying ourselves, but we'll enjoy it more if we win trophies, so much more."

Barca have been pitted against Bayern Munich in the Champions League while either Liverpool or Chelsea will await them if they progress to the semi-final.

Messi insists it is too early to be thinking about the final in Rome but believes they can get there if they maintain their current form.

"We still have four incredibly difficult games," he said.

"We will get to Rome if we continue like this, united, doing our football and knowing how to suffer."
