Mumbai's teenager Prithvi Shaw is ready to face his first ever Duleep Trophy challenge in Lucknow today.

Shaw, 17, who scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut during the semi-final against Tamil Nadu at Rajkot early this year, was at Vizag playing for Indian Oil. The opener scored 52 against Andhra Pradesh and 35 against Baroda. With both games being washed out, he was waiting for the third game when he got news of his selection in the Dinesh Karthik-led India Red team.

Shaw's team will play India Green in the four-day, pink-ball fixture in Lucknow from today.

"I didn't expect to get a call-up for Duleep Trophy because I have figured in just two Ranji Trophy matches. I think the selectors and coaches trust me to play well," Shaw told mid-day from Lucknow yesterday.

"All the players along with captain Dinesh Karthik and coach Narendra Hirwani sir welcomed and congratulated when I joined the team for practice. Hirwani sir told me to play my natural game," he revealed.

Shaw admitted feeling a bit nervous. "I don't think there is any pressure on me, but I am slightly nervous as I will face India's best attack if I get a chance to play. It will definitely be a challenge, but at the same time, this experience will teach me how to play at the higher level," Shaw added.
