According to Oshiwara police sources, the victim has been identified as Mumtaz Rasheed Badshah. Her grandson found her body at her home in Rizwan building. Robbery did not seem to be the motive behind the murder, as no valuables were missing from the house.

Mumtaz was alone at the time of incident, while her husband Rasheed was away at work. The incident came to light after Rasheed’s repeated attempts to contact her went futile. He called several times on her mobile phone but she did not answer. Rasheed later called his grandson and asked him to go to the house and find out why Mumtaz was not answering his calls.

Her grandson reached the flat and rang the doorbell various times, but Mumtaz did not open the door. He entered the flat from the kitchen window, only to find his grandmother in a pool of blood. He immediately called Rasheed, who reached the spot and alerted the cops. Mumtaz and Rasheed have two sons, one of whom resides in America and the other lives in the flat next door. Rasheed has a property dealing business.

Oshiwara Police said that on the basis of primary information it seems that personal rivalry may be the reason for Mumtaz’s murder. However, they have not zeroed in on any motive yet and are probing all angles. The police will also go through the footage from the CCTV cameras installed in the society. They have registered an FIR under Section 302 (murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
