Mumbai crime: Auto driver slaps, molests 19-year-old girl

A 19-year-old girl was allegedly slapped, assaulted and even touched inappropriately by an auto rickshaw driver at Thane, when she argued with him for going in a wrong direction...

Yet another time, an auto rickshaw ride turned out to be a scary affair for a young Thane resident.

According to a report by Hindustan Times, 19-year-old girl, was allegedly slapped and molested by a auto driver at Thane. The young girl, who is a resident of Thane rural area, came for work when the incident occurred. In reference to this incident, a police officer from Thane nagar police station told to the website, "The victim and her friend hailed a rickshaw. An unknown man also sat in rickshaw with them”.

The officer was even quoted saying "As the auto driver headed towards Khopat, she noticed the driver, Mahendra Arun Pitale,49, was going the wrong way. When she asked him to stop, an argument ensued between them, and Pitale turned around and slapped the girl. The victim then got down from the rickshaw and started shouting at him. Pitale the assaulted her and touched her inappropriately."

On noticing the incident, locals in the vicinity caught the accused, beat him up and handed him over to police. However, Thane Nagar Police station is in the process of filing a case against the auto rickshaw driver.
