On Thursday evening, when 58-year-old Mannabi Shaikh boarded an auto for Borivli station, as was her usual routine when visiting family there, little did she know that it would turn into a ride from hell. Three people, including a woman, robbed her at knifepoint and later, abandoned to find her way home from Dahisar naka. The accused have not been identified yet and no arrests have been made.

When they near the Samidhan Bridge, he suddenly takes a U-turn and two other people, including a woman, board the auto. Mannabi assumes it is a shared auto and does not protest
Shaken victim
The Bandra resident's son, Javed Shaikh, recounted the incident and said, "My mother was visiting relatives in Siddharth Nagar and had spent the morning there. At around 8.30 pm, she didn't get an auto below the building, so she walked a bit and found one who agreed to take her. After she sat inside, he made a call, but she couldn't understand the language he spoke in."
However, after a missed turn, when she gets suspicious, they immediately bring down the side curtains. She is then robbed of her gold at knifepoint and abandoned at the Dahisar check naka
According to the police, when the auto reached Saidham Bridge, the driver took a U-turn and two people shuffled in, asking her to make room. Instead of protesting, Mannabi assumed that she was in a shared auto and let them sit.

The ride resumed, but it was when they reached that National Park flyover that she got suspicious and asked the driver where he was taking her. "Suddenly, the two beside her let down the rain curtains on the auto to shield her from public view and the driver pulled out a knife. He threatened to kill her and the woman started taking off her jewellery, including a gold chain, gold bangles, gold earrings along with her cash and cellphone. On reaching the Dahisar check naka, they asked my mother to get off and fled," said Javed. Mannabi also told the police, "When I tried to resist, the man with the knife placed it on my neck and asked me to keep mum or he would cut my throat and dump my body somewhere."
Javed said, "After she walked to Dahisar station, she managed to caught a train home and we immediately took her to Kasturba Marg police station and filed an FIR."
Police says
Satish Raorane, senior police inspector, Kasturba Marg police station, said, "A case of robbery has been registered and the matter is being investigated. We have a few clues that we are working on."
