The break-ins happened between 3 am and 5 am on Friday and it is suspected that at least four people were involved. They used gas cutters in the thefts.

The employees of German Laundry located in Colaba Number 2, reported the matter to the police, and it has been revealed that Rs 17,000 and some clothes were stolen here. Metro Optics located at Colaba Causeway was also broken into, and the burglars made off with five frames of spectacles and about Rs 11,000, said a police officer from Colaba police station.

“Our shop is located just a few metres away from the police station, and the area is highly sensitive, yet the burglars managed to sneak in and flee easily. We do not have a CCTV camera installed in the showroom, but there is one installed near the Navy Children School about 5 feet away from our showroom. Even there, an unoccupied shop was broken into. Since it was not a major burglary in our showroom, we did not report it to the police,” said an employee of Metro Optics.

However, an employee of German Laundry said, “We learnt about the incident in the morning and told our employer. We have submitted the CCTV footage of the incident to the police.”

Police says
The officer added, “We are trying to identify and nab the culprits in the matter. A case under Sections 457 (Lurking house trespass) and 380 (Theft in house, dwelling) of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.”
