And here comes the Pune Biennale
We love this time of the year, (despite the October heat) for it brings so much promise for a vibrant arts scene.

The film fests are underway, the litfests are on the horizon, and now, the Pune Biennale isn’t too far away either. At a curtain raiser organised at the National Gallery of Modern Art yesterday, we learnt that the biennale will be held from January 5 to 29 at venues across Pune.

(Think JM Road, Municipal Printing Press, Mahatma Phule Museum, Pataleshwar caves precinct, apart from the usual art galleries.) The theme for the collateral projects is Identity & Self, while the flagship show has been co-curated by the biennale’s curator Zasha Colah herself. Sudarshan Shetty will be lending his expertise from the experience of the Kochi Biennale. And with renowned artists like Prabhakar Kolte on the advisory committee, we are waiting with bated breath.

A Bedi good reunion

Shake and stir like Dimi
The master mixologist Dimi Lezinska (in pic) is on a high these days. While the Paris import, known for designing cocktails at Oscar parties and infusing cocktails with seaweed and soya sauce, was crowned the mixologist of the year recently, he’s more excited for his protege Brijesh Vyas, a supervising bartender at KOKO.

Vyas is set to compete for the world’s most experimental bartender title to be held next month in Scotland. He qualified for the global finals by whipping up New Dufftown Glory Fizz, a concoction of camembert cream soda, white chocolate and whiskey sour.

“The achievements of my bartenders mean a lot to me because they are the ones serving every evening. I guide them in every way possible, and always advise them to host, rather than serve,” Lezinska smiles.

A day full of memories
It was a day of remembrances for Rishi Kapoor. While the actor tweeted a picture of his uncle Shammi Kapoor on his 85th birth anniversary yesterday, a little later, he marked a sombre occasion.

It was Yash Chopra’s fourth death anniversary, and Kapoor, who did the blockbuster Chandni with the director and continued to appear in his films right till the end, didn’t forget to pay his tributes.

Digital writers of the world unite
The time has come to recognise that in the digital world writers are doing things differently, and celebrate it too. That’s what Melbourne’s Digital Writers’ Festival will be doing from the beginning of November.

Dedicated to celebrating the work of writers from across the world, it hopes to foster collaborations between writers, “wherever they may be.” The Mumbaikar, of course, needn’t worry — it will all be up on the web.

Travel where Bollywood is
There were the valleys of Kashmir and then there was Interlaken. The eras of Bollywood can indeed be demarcated with the locales of choice for romantic numbers. But now Switzerland is passé too as the pretty faces of Bollywood move to lesser-known destinations abroad.

(How many of us had heard of Dubrovnik until Fan came along?) A global homestay network has been tracking these locations closely, and has come up with a list of villas, studios, beach houses, even caves, where Bollywood fans can head to soak in the atmosphere of the cities their favourite stars danced, cried and romanced in. Some names on the list include Sofia, Corsica, Prague, Miami and Reykjavik. Bon voyage!
