They were once sworn rivals, both anchoring prime time marquee shows on different television news channels. But with time, they moved on from the medium they had worked in for decades — and with that, the rivalry seems to have melted away. When Sagarika Ghose recently launched her book on Indira Gandhi, fellow journalist Barkha Dutt wasted no time in congratulating her. While she is still to read it, she promised Ghose that the title would make for her holiday reading, and she's sure it would be fantastic. Wish we came across this camaraderie more often.

Fast bowlers' fan club
After the much-hyped (for a change) women's ODI between India and Pakistan at the cricket World Cup, the Mithali Raj-led Indian team won a one-sided affair. Post the match, Pakistani bowler Kainat Imtiaz posted this on social media: 'In 2005, I saw the Indian team for the 1st time as the Asia Cup was held in Pakistan. I was the ball picker during the tournament... I saw @jhulangoswami. The fastest bowler of that time. I was so impressed that I chose cricket as a career. Specifically fast bowling.' She posted a frame with Goswami, adding that it was a proud moment to be playing the World Cup alongside her inspiration after 12 years. With such sportsmanship on display, it's another reminder of how sport continues to bridge boundaries.

Purple goodness
We love it when chefs go foraging for the choicest of ingredients, and share food stories in the process. This picture was taken in Hubli at what looks like a wholesale agricultural market. If you are thinking these brinjals are different from what you get in Mumbai, that's just why chef Vicky Ratnani was looking for them. Yengai, a staple northern Karnataka dish eaten with jowar roti, is a stuffed eggplant preparation with a unique masala. Ratnani savoured it years ago at a friend's home in Dharwad and borrowed the recipe. "This recipe needs tiny and tender eggplant, the kind that is almost seedless," said the chef. Should we expect a bharli wangi innovation soon, chef?
Another web entrant
Going by the number of famous faces making a foray into online entertainment, we sometimes wonder if there would be anything left to consume offline. The latest entrant is actress-model Gul Panag. She has launched an online lifestyle property whose focus is fashion, films, travel, food, events, sports, and some architecture. The venture was launched with a food post, a traditional Italian recipe of Banana Tiramisu - a safe bet considering how online food ventures continue to thrive. We hope, though, the venture takes after the personality of its spunky, enterprising owner, who isn't afraid to try new things.
Cupcakes go corporate
For a long time now, the corporate crowd of One Indiabulls Centre in Lower Parel has been intrigued by aromas wafting from Le 15 Patisserie's central kitchen, located in the lane behind the office hub. Some have even ventured inside the space during their post-lunch walks to make enquiries and order cakes for office birthday parties. Looks like the patisserie has a steady corporate customer base in the area, as pastry chef and owner Pooja Dhingra readies to launch a new outpost inside the swanky office hub, which already boasts of quite a few eating haunts. A choux pastry to nibble on with your morning coffee? That sounds like a sweet start to a busy day.
