A newly launched delivery-only outlet in Goregaon, Mumbai serves delicious desserts but can improve its Parsi and Sindhi fare

When we shuffled through the array of boxes that arrived at our desk from Black Stove Co, our eyes were instantly drawn to the Filter Coffee Caramel Flan (Rs 150) that jiggled under its transparent packaging. What could be the problem in digging into a dessert before the main course, when we had two more sweet dishes in store, we thought. Out came our spoons, and we dug in. The taste of filter coffee hit us as soon as the creamy preparation settled in the mouth, making this semi-sweet dish a hit. With the flan instantly putting the Sindhi and Parsi delivery-only joint in our good books, we headed straight for the mains.

While the Bawa Sali Boti (Rs 260-460) made for a flavoursome spicy delicious meal, serving one, its accompaniment — the buttered sourdough baguette failed to withstand the downpour, arriving soggy.

The Parsi Style Corn-Tomato Paneer Par (Rs 290) could have qualified as a desi lasagna at first sight, with a thick layer of mozzarella cheese topping a spicy-sweet preparation of, as the name suggested, paneer and corn. Although among the last dishes to be sampled, the paneer remained surprisingly tender, seamlessly blending in with the cheese. Paired with the slices of buttered baguettes, the dish made for a wholesome meal. Although its cheesy appearance suggested otherwise, the tomato preparation did not leave us feeling uncomfortably full.

While the mains appeared promising, the bread preparations disappointed us. The Mahabaleshwar Style Corn Patties (Rs 160) and the Kheema Kabab Sandwich (Rs 250), both served with the Sourdough Lamba Pav, were salty. We found the corn patties excessively dry. Also, while the menu has a strong Parsi flavour, with options like Bawa Kheema Papeto and Bawa Kheema Kebabs, we wish there were more Sindhi options to choose from.

What the Goregaon-based kitchen fails to deliver in its other food, it makes up with desserts, offering up seven cakes, pies and tarts. An eggless Dark Chocolate Tart (Rs 150) may appear too big for one, but if consumed unchecked, can spell trouble for your weight. The chocolate filling was deliciously light and delectable, while its crumbling crust complemented it perfectly. It didn’t take us long to realise we were halfway through the sizeable tart.

While the crust of the Cinnamon Crumble Apple Pie (Rs 160) was thicker than we would have liked, the cinnamon flavour almost instantly revealed itself in this aptly sweet preparation, making it another dish we’d certainly give a go, again.
