A new delivery kitchen based out of Chembur brings you comfort fare until 4 am, for days when hunger strikes and the refrigerator has been cleaned out

As far as late-night food deliveries go, Mumbai surprisingly lacks any notable players. Enter Room Service, a delivery kitchen in Chembur, which operates only between 12 am and 4 am. Launched by the team behind Bombay Food Truck and Le Café, the menu of the week-old service features a small selection of sandwiches, kathi rolls and pizzas.

As of now, Room Service delivers within Chembur, as well as to Ghatkopar East, Tilak Nagar, Deonar and Govandi. We hear they plan to expand their delivery radius to Sion, Powai, and beyond.
Five-star service
Placing an order is simple enough. Pick up the phone and call the number listed on the menu. Bear in mind, though, that the line opens only around 11.30 pm. We call at 11.40 pm, and are greeted warmly by the very affable Ravi. Since we're unsure what to order, he recommends a few items he believes we might enjoy.
Chicken Mayo Sandwich
When we tell him we'd like the person doing the delivery to call us when he arrives, he reassures us that they already have a 'no doorbell' policy in place so as to avoid waking up those who may be asleep. A minor detail, but considerate nonetheless.
Grub talk
Our order arrives in under an hour, all items packed neatly in sturdy cardboard boxes. All the four pizzas on the menu -- Margherita, Simply Veg, BBQ Chicken and Butter Chicken -- come prepared on a 12-inch base. We opt for a Simply Veg (R450) and BBQ Chicken (R550). While the former is topped generously with zucchini, corn and bell peppers, we find the chicken topping on the latter quite sparse. The addition of chicken chunks and a smattering of onion slices would have done the trick.
Next, we sample the Chicken Mayo Sandwich, which features three slices of white bread, layered with a filling of creamy mayo and shredded chicken, with a hint of spice. It's simple comfort fare. There are two other sandwich options -- Vegetable, and Butter Chicken (all Rs 200). The latter is also available in the form of a Butter Chicken Kathi Roll (R250), which is what we opt for.
Simply Veg and BBQ Chicken Pizza
If there was one thing that you will find yourself ordering repeatedly from Room Service, it is this. The richness of the butter chicken is offset by the crunch of onions; a mint chutney on the side perfectly complements all flavours.
The food is fuss-free and reasonably priced, but we do hope Room Service will add more items to the menu, as promised. We would have liked desserts -- a simple brownie or caramel custard to quell those sweet cravings. That said, it's a great concept, considering how tough it is to come by decent grub in these parts of town in the wee hours.
