A new delivery kitchen in Bandra East offers an extensive menu, but disappoints with fare that's ho-hum

Finding a lunch delivery service that is affordable, tasty and healthy all at the same time is like looking for a blue whale in an ocean full of bottom feeders. So, when we heard that a new service called Daily Dabba had opened in our neighbourhood, we were eager to find out which one it would be - the whale, or the bottom feeder.

The menu features the usual suspects - North Indian, Continental, and Asian grub. It also has a section offering "healthy" meals. We place our order online, and the food arrives within the stipulated 45 minutes.

We notice that the containers are not leak-proof, which is why they have multiple layers of tape holding them together. By the time we're done cutting through all these, we realise we may have already lost our appetite.

We try the Chicken in Smoky Barbeque Sauce (Rs 180), which we picked from the daily specials menu. The chicken gravy comes with a portion of herbed rice, coleslaw, a piece of garlic bread, and a handful of potato wafers. While the gravy is delicious, it tastes nothing like a barbecue sauce-based dish. In fact, it tastes more Asian, leaving us confused.

The Veg Oriental Flavours Meal (Rs 180), meanwhile, comprises noodles, a Manchurian-style gravy with veggies, Szechuan sauce, and pickled cucumber and carrot. Unfortunately, this meal reminds us of the greasy Chinese found at hole-in-the-wall restaurants we frequented when we had emptier pockets, making us wonder what it's doing at this eatery, which seems to be targeted at office-goers.

Even the Malai Chicken Tikka Roll (Rs 155) disappoints. While the chicken is well cooked, there's a harsh aftertaste to the creamy filling, making us abandon the roll quickly. Meanwhile, the only herb we can really taste in the Herbed Wedges (Rs 85) is the omnipresent oregano, but that does not stop us from wolfing down this comfort snack.

Daily Dabba also has a large selection of coolers, juices and shakes. We like the Chocolate Love Shake (Rs 75). Our grouse with the Dashing Duo (Rs 90), a combination of apple and orange juice, is that the latter uses boxed juices rather than being made fresh.

After having tried a few stellar meal-in-a-box delivery services in the recent past, we aren't entirely satisfied with the grub from Daily Dabba. That said, it may appeal to those looking for sharing portions at reasonable prices.
