On a workday afternoon, we ordered everything on the menu, four dogs and two sandwiches. The solitary vegetarian option, made with corn and cheese, wasn’t available.

The delivery took an hour as a result of which most of the sausages were cold; they still tasted delicious but who likes cold grilled meat?

The packaging was neat. Our dogs come packed in sturdy black boxes with two sauces, ketchup, plastic spoons, napkins and the hot dog encased in another plastic container. Laurence J Peter’s quote ‘Noblest of all dogs is the hot-dog; it feeds the hand that bites it’ was emblazoned on the sides.

At first bite, the Smoky Dog (Rs 300) and the Classic NYS Dog (Rs 250) tasted similar. The first was a pork sausage on a bed of grilled onions and mustard mayo — it had a deliciously smoked flavour that was retained despite the sausage having gone cold. The classic dog was meatier and had a better char giving it a more salty flavour.

We devoured the two sandwiches, served like a dog with the meat stuffed in between a hot dog roll. The Pulled Pork Sandwich (Rs 300) had stringy, slightly dry strings of pork in an intense BBQ sauce and was falling out of the bread. The Smoked Chicken Sandwich (Rs 250) had slices of smoked chicken with a sharp hit of mustard that was mellowed by the soft grilled onions.

The Southwest Dog (Rs 250) was a clear favourite and the spiciest of the lot. It had a robust, intense flavour from the chicken jalapeno and cheddar sausage enhanced by the chipotle mayo. The Chilly Pork Dog (R300) was similarly spicy but packed a meatier punch.

While we loved the meaty flavourful sausages, the bread proved the biggest letdown. It was crumbly and could barely contain the meat. All the dogs came with a homemade barbeque sauce that was deliciously sweet and tangy, and mustard — this gave us the option of customising the quantity of relish. But, instead of fries, we were served chips.

NYS claim to be open 24/7, a claim we were unable to verify since delivery areas are restricted. They agreed to deliver to Bandra (E) only because we ordered more than four items and even then, the delivery took over an hour and a half (and repeated calls). So, not the best option for a quick snack. But, if you want a meaty treat, this will appeal.
