After fighting with schools in the Divisional Fee Regulatory Committee (DFRC) for almost a year, parents have been left high and dry by the recent Bombay High Court order. The HC has said that only schools can approach the committee over fee hikes.

Deputy Director of Education and DFRC chief B B Chavan is of the opinion that six cases might get affected. The next hearing is on July 21. Parents have been fighting against the Indian Education Society, Bal Bharti Public and Delhi Public school (both from Navi Mumbai), St Joseph School (Panvel) and Uran Education Society English Medium School.
"We feel cheated by the government, as there is no provision for parents to approach the DFRC," said Sunil Chaudhari, parent of a child from Delhi Public School.
Another parent, Manisha Patil, whose child studies in St Joseph School, Panvel, said, "We feel that no law or act will help us to resolve fee hike issues."
Now, parents are hoping for an amendment in the Fee Regulation Act to curb the hike menace.
"Our committee is still working on changes needed in the Act. On August 8, we will submit the amendment for approval," said V G Palshikar, committee chief.
