The Sewri police have arrested a father-son duo for allegedly kidnapping a man from Sewri and confining him in a room in Matunga for defaulting to pay the interest on the loan he had taken from them. The two arrested run a money lending business. After the man had called his brother, the police were informed and the accused were traced and the complainant was rescued.

According to the police, the victim in this case, Prakash Mohite, 24, is employed with a warehousing company in Sewri. Mohite had taken a loan of Rs 3 lakhs from the accused, identified as Suresh and Milind Javde (father-son), at the interest rate of 10% (Rs 30,000) per month, around 3 years ago.

However, recently Mohite started defaulting to pay an interest to Javde due to some financial problems. He failed to pay interest since the last two months, an officer from Sewri police station requesting anonymity said.

"On July 29, Suresh and Milind Javde went to Mohite's office and demanded money. After Mohite said he did not have money, they assaulted him and kidnapped him. They then took him to a room at Matunga labour camp. They contacted his brother Deepak, and threatened to harm Mohite, if he doesn't give them their tempo," said the officer.

The victim's brother informed the Sewri police and registered a case against the two accused. Following the complaint, a team rescued Mohite and arrested the two on charges of kidnapping and extortion.
