Mumbai Metro records highest number of commuters in three years

On July 17, the Mumbai Metro broke all records and recorded the highest ever footfall since the time it started. The service saw around 3.8 lakh commuters on July 17the highest ever since it started in 2014

On July 17 the Mumbai Metro broke all records and recorded the highest ever footfall since the time it started.


As per reports by Mumbai Mirror, the Mumbai Metro, that operates along the Versova-Andheri-Ghatkopar corridor saw around 3.8 lakh commuters on July 17th – which is the highest ever since it started in 2014. In a statement to Mumbai mirror, Mumbai Metro One Private Ltd ( MMOPL) spokesperson said, “Previous to this, the last highest weekday ridership was 3.7 lakh registerd on June 28.”


“Of all the stations that the metro services, the ones that recorded the highest foot fall were Chakala/JB Nagar and Western Express Highway (WEH) with 10 per cent increase and Azad Nagar as well as Airport road stations with 8 per cent and 6 per cent increase, respectively,” he added

While the entire day saw a higher number of commuters, the evening (between 6.00pm to 8.pm) saw the highest number of people with about 14,000 commuters present.  The spokesperson also added, “During the peak hour of 6-7 pm, Mumbai Metro One carried around 50 thousand commuters in a span of just an hour."
