Mumbai: The Maharashtra cabinet decided to scrap the Mumbai Metropolitan Region's (MMR) Industrial Location Policy framed in 1974 and frame it under Development Control Rules (DCR), it was officially announced here today.

An official from the Maharashtra Chief Minister's office said that after this decision, industrial units would not require permissions from the industries department for expansion and modernisation.

"As such, industrial units will not require permission from the industries department for their expansion and modernisation," the official said, adding that the decision would help the government's "ease of doing business" initiative.

He said that the Pollution Control Board looks after implementation of pollution control rules which did not exist in 1974.
