Mumbai man charged Rs 1.3 lakh for local train pass worth Rs 1,333

A Dahisar resident got the shock of his life while paying for a quarterly first-class pass through credit card, thanks to goof-up by a Western Railway clerk. Here's what transpired

A Dahisar resident got the shock of his life while paying for a quarterly first-class pass through credit card. The Western Railway clerk accidentally keyed in and swiped Rs 1.3 lakh by mistake instead of Rs 1,333.


According to The Times of India, The commuter, Vikas Manchekar immediately informed station officials about this issue and wrote a complaint seeking an immediate refund. He even called up the bank that issued the credit card but it was all for nought.

He is currently pursuing the matter with Western Railway authorities and has even taken time off from work to visit the WR's office to get his money refunded.

A source from Western Railway said a charge sheet has been issued against the clerk and disciplinary action has been initiated. The source further added that personnel have been deputed to contact State Bank of India to refund the commuter's amount back to his account.

Since an interest of Rs 4,000 to 5,000 will be levied on the amount after the due date of August 24, Vikas Manchekar expects Western Railway to pay him the interest charged by the bank along with the deducted amount.
