After being sexually assaulted by a group of 15 youths for the past one year, a 16-year-old-boy finally got the courage to approach the police after a social worker offered him help.

In his complaint to the DN Nagar police, the victim who said the boys, who were from his locality, repeatedly raped him. After registering the complaint, the police have arrested seven members of the group and have launched a man hunt for the rest.

An officer said, "Last August, one of the teen’s friends took him to his house and sexually assaulted him. The latter threatened the boy not to reveal the incident to anyone. But a few days later, some friends of the accused cornered the boy, telling him they were aware of the assault, and violated him."

Police sources said the accused are mostly teenagers.

"On July 31, a social worker encouraged him to file an FIR against the 15 boys. Yesterday morning, they filed a complaint and seven of the accused were arrested by midnight. We are on the hunt for the remaining eight. The crime branch has also been roped in to expedite the probe," the officer added.

All the accused have been booked under relevant sections of the IPC and the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
