Found guilty of not being able to control the Nevali farmers' protest, two police officers of the Hill Line police station have been suspended. Another officer, who was injured in the incident, has been transferred to the special branch of Thane police. The order was issued by Param Bir Singh, Commissioner of Police, Thane, after an inquiry against the cops revealed that they could not do their job properly, which turned the protest into a riot-like situation.
The suspended officers have been identified as Mohan Waghmare, senior police inspector and Ravindra Kawrati, assistant police inspector. Police inspector, Vijay Powa, was transferred to the special branch of Thane police.

"Waghmare was among the senior officers, who were in-charge of the area, and Kawrati was the beat in-charge. Both of them could not handle the situation and hence it turned into a riot. If they were more alert, then such an incident could have been avoided," said a senior officer of the Thane commissionerate.
