A Central Railway (CR) staff succumbed to injuries after a plastic bag containing coconut and floral waste hit him on Vashi Bridge on Monday
A Central Railway (CR) staff succumbed to injuries after a plastic bag containing coconut and floral waste hit him on Vashi Bridge today.
According to a report by Hindustan Times, the incident occurred when 36-year-old Santosh Kadam, a signal maintainer at CR, was examining railway signal in Vashi. An unknown railway commuter threw the bag containing coconut and floral waste from a CST-bound Mumbai local around 12.30pm. The bag, instead of falling in the creek water, hit Kadam and left him seriously injured.
Sudarshan Khurana, station of manager of Vashi railway station, told to the publication, “Kadam collapsed on the spot as soon as the coconut hit him in the thigh. He was taken to the station. We later rushed him to the railway hospital in Byculla and admitted him there.” Khurana also added that the victim would have died if the coconut had hit him on his head.
Referring to the accident, Khurana was quoted saying to the publication, “Apart from the signal maintainers, the technicians and other employees of our engineering department keep working along the tracks. People should think twice before throwing such things to the creek from the moving trains.”
A GRP official from Vashi said that the commuter who threw the plastic bag is yet to be identified.
