Though the Mumbai Cricket Association's (MCA) managing committee spent a lot of time discussing the Mumbai Premier League (MPL), the proposed T20 tournament is not making enough progress to live up to the planned kick off in January 2018.

"A few agencies came up with their presentations today and we have asked them to submit their proposals. We can take a decision only after going through them," MCA Joint Secretary Dr Unmesh Khanvilkar told mid-day yesterday. It is learnt that Twenty First Century Media Pvt Ltd, Laqshya Media, Hansa Vision, Reliance IMG, Footmarque Services and Aditya Birla Foundation made presentations to MCA officials at Wankhede Stadium yesterday. "Most of them came with a figure of Rs 1 crore per match, which is insufficient. They need to take into account factors like TV rights revenue and title sponsorship. With hardly any time left, it appears to be a tough task to begin this tournament by January," said an MCA source. The naming rights of the Wankhede was another important item on the agenda of the meeting.
