Mumbai rains alert: Here's how you can plan your morning travel

Rains continued to lash Mumbai metropolitan region for the fifth day on Tuesday with India Meteorological Department's (IMD) Santacruz and Colaba stations recording a three digit rainfall in last 48-hours.


The rainfall figures have been recorded between 8 am of July 17 to 8 am of July 18. "The Santacruz station of Mumbai IMD recorded 163 mm of rainfall, while Colaba registered 107 mm of showers in last 24-hours," IMD-Mumbai, director, Sunil Kamble said on Tuesday.

Mumbai Traffic Updates
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), Mumbai has said that intermittent rain shower is likely to occur in the city and suburbs with heavy downpour in some areas. The traffic police are already gearing up for a tough 48 hours, as the ongoing Metro construction work and pothole menace is likely to affect motorists. Traffic congestion was reported in Goregaon, Hindmata, Parel, Mulund and Powai. Motorists using the Western Express Highway and the arterial JVLR had to negotiate potholes.

There was waterlogging reported at Linking Road in Bandra, SV Road and VM Road, while the Santacruz Chembur Link Road and the WEH reported slow moving traffic all through the day, especially in the evening. There were long lines of vehicles on the Eastern Freeway and Eastern Express Highway in the evening.

Western Express Highway

As per Google maps' live traffic feed, there is a traffic snarl on the Western Express Highway on the Arey flyover. You can expect a delay at this spot. The jam extens along the entire route with slow moving traffic along the Dindoshi flyover.

Eastern Express Highway

There is slow moving traffic along the JVLR exit leading on to the Eastern Express highway.The traffic snarl extends up to Khanhurmarg Railway Station. You can expect slow moving traffic along this highway. In fact the traffic snarl is so bad that people have taken to twitter to warn other communters. 

 

Mumbai Railway updates

Lakes update

Modak Sagar was the first lake to overflow then Powai After Modak SagarTansa, a lake supplying potable water to the City of Mumbai started overflowing on Tuesday (July 18, 2017) from 4.55 p.m. onwards. Last year, this lake was started overflowing on 2 nd August, 2016 from 2.10 a.m. onwards.
